The formula
Cost = area x (1 + waste) x material rate + area x (labor + prep) + removal
Rigid-core SPC planks tolerate uneven subfloors better than glue-down or thin click-lock vinyl, which is why prep costs drop as plank quality rises.
Worked example
900 sq ft of rigid-core LVP over an existing subfloor runs about $5,400 to $7,700 installed.
Frequently asked questions
How much does vinyl plank flooring cost installed?
LVP typically runs $5 to $10 per square foot installed in 2026, with rigid-core products at the top of that range.
Is LVP cheaper than laminate?
They are close. LVP costs slightly more but is fully waterproof, which is why it dominates kitchens, baths and basements.
